Metals, nonmetals & metalloids
Properties connect the families.
Metals often conduct heat and electricity well. Many can be shaped without breaking. These are broad tendencies, not universal rules for every element and condition.
Nonmetals include gases such as oxygen and solids such as carbon. Metalloids have a combination of properties; exact membership can differ between reference schemes.
Our colour categories follow the PubChem group-block classification. Categories for superheavy elements are based on placement and should not be read as measured bulk properties.
